@Victoria Ice - I actually just use my press release title. "For Immediate Release - [Niche site title] Opens to Public!"

@Caroline - Spot on Caroline... using Social bookmarks, article directories and link directories are GREAT to kinda "nudge" the site into public view... but if thats all you do, it hurts more than it helps.

@Ben Johnson - Spot on Ben - It is a long term thing... and not a great ROI, but as long as you do just 1 a day, don't force the issue, and take what you get, someone WILL start talking about it!

Local is a HUGE benefit as well, in my case, I have about 65-70 "golf" related business websites in the area... they will get an email too!

@Keith - Thats it man!! Nothing ventured, nothing gained right? :-)

@Ben - G will never admit the sandbox esists, but some of the techs have told others in confidence. Its an Age Filter, that takes alot of massaging to push out of!

Thanks for the comments all...

Hi,

I was wondering what you thought would be suitable as the Subject/Title.

I want them to open it, but I don't want to put them off or sound spammy.

I hope you don't think I am silly asking this.

Hi Mark,

From my own personal experience, I can attest that if you put up a site on a brand new domain and immediately start a link campaign (submitting articles en masse, submitting your site to numerous web directories, social bookmarking sites, etc.) you will experience the 'sandbox effect. Or get your new site banned.

But, so many 'experts' teach this type of linking strategy, it must work for some people, eh?

Your suggested method seems very 'organic' and 'natural' as Ben said. Plus a heck of a whole lot less stressful! ;-)

Hi Mark

Another great post, this is something I tried around a year back with a phpBay site I had built, it wasn't something outstanding but quite a bit of work had gone into it. A couple of people out of around 100 picked up on it (not a great response) but it became one of my best performing sites, it was mainly local traffic from around my region but it made all the difference. I know Melissa (Eaton) had a similar occurrence as well.

You've reminded me to have another go at it now though :).

Thanks Mark!
I think this is a very natural and "organic" addition to all the other link building efforts that are open to us. I'd be very interested in getting updates on how this is working for you!

I'm sure there's a huge debate out there about the google "sandbox" (or "penalty box" for those of the hockey persuasion :-) ) so thanks for rising above that to provide us with the usual great advice.

...and no - that's NOT brown-nosing :-)
